Forget the Gregorian calendar, which since the middle ages, has defined January as our temporal reset button. September marks for many of us a return from a restorative vacation, a fresh academic year, a noticeably shorter day and that chilly morning reminding us of winter to come. It is an opportunity for many of us to wipe the slate clean. The scent of possibility, opportunity and, alas, change is in the air. Especially since so much of this year has felt so drubbed with sameness. Just putting on a blazer feels at first awkward and then oddly invigorating.
